Description

The Open Water Whale Watching Tour is one of the most popularly requested tour by new and returning Ocean Friendl guests. Our specialized Whale Watching and Banderas Bay Open Water Tours became so popular that we extended the ocean journey to 4.5 hours. This allows us extra time to focus deeper on providing a well rounded understanding of the environment where open water species live (such as the Humpback whales), the influence of tides and ocean currents on their distribution and the changes in their behavior along the journey.

If you are interested in a shorter tour learn more about our Whale Watching Tours

This spectacular journey covers an attempt to observe a larger variety of open water species such as Bottlenose dolphins, Spotted dolphins, Rough toothed dolphins, Bryde’s whales, Humpback whales, Giant mantas, sea turtles, occasionally Spinner dolphins, False killer whales and even Orcas. During the tour, we describe the origin of Banderas Bay and its relationship within the southern most province of the Sea of Cortez.

The Open Water Whale Watching Tour is also a bird lovers delight where we can observe a variety of pelagic bird species in the open ocean such as Terns, Brown and Blue Footed Booby birds, Pelicans, Frigate birds, Sea gulls and occasionally Red-billed Tropic birds. To make this trip even more special, Ocean Friendly Tours provides an experienced bird watching expert on board to further enhance your understanding of this unique ecosystem and to assist with bird species identification.

The extended length of this tour gives our photographically inclined guests extra time to get the photos that they are hoping to capture. If you need assistance from a nature photographer please let us know in order to asign one to assist you along the tour.
